Police Leadership Meets, Concludes Plans to Query Magu
The leadership of the Nigerian Police Force in a crucial meeting on Tuesday, concluded plans to query the former acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu.
The decision was made at a police leadership meeting on Tuesday.
According to sources, the reasons behind the decisions is the initial refusal of the embattled ex acting EFCC boss to stay in the room he was offered at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), but opting to stay in a cell instead.
Magu’s reason being unsure of the safety and health condition of the room in view of the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Recall that Mr Magu was arrested last Monday and has since been facing a presidential investigative panel over alleged corruption and insubordination. He has been detained since his arrest at the police facility in Abuja. Also, security officials around Magu, have been withdrawn.
According to sources, wife of the embattled ex acting chairman of the EFCC, fearing for her life and that of her children, after the sudden withdrawal of the security guards from his official quarters, leaving behind only two from about ten, had to arrange a private security company to be on standby in case the remaining two may as well be withdrawn.
Another reason for the query by the police leadership, is that from the proceedings before the panel on Magu, there is tendency that his main constituency which is represented by two top brass personnel, are not happy with his alleged conduct and hang him by way of query to suspend him from the Force.
There are many other reasons since Magu is a serving police officer while the Police Service Rules may be invoked on him.
