NPower: Civil Societies Joins Plea to President Buhari
On behalf of the entire NPower Volunteers on the occasion of this year’s Eid Mubarak celebrations, extend our warmth felicitations. We as well seize this opportunity to say a PROFOUND GRATITUDE for the National Social Investnent Programme that gainfully engaged 500,000 NPower beneficiaries so far, which is a manifestation of your campaign promise to scale down the number of unemployed in our country.
We, a civil societies coalition for sustainable development and other well meaning citizens of Nigeria joined to plead with Mr. President to please take a second glance into the prayers of the NPower Batch A and B beneficiaries.
Undoubtedly, from inception of the programme NPower Volunteers have shown dedication to work with utmost decorum, promoting peace works and law abiding. We entreat you our leader to see to their plight coming at an unprecedented time as such.
Mr. President, the news about Batch A and B exit from the scheme came to all with a rude shock and awe, of which a member of the scheme reportedly took his dear life hearing the development. We also believe that countless members of the Npower family would be dealing with untold difficulties since the impromptu exit was announced.
Dear Mr. President, without pinch of doubt we understand the debilitating impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the total well-being of the economy that you and your team are forced to respond to. But, we have just one(1) out of three(3) prayers to make. These demands are borne of the fact that we know you, Mr. President will not suffer to see your own brain child (NSIP – NPower Volunteers) to be the first victims of the COVID-19 global threat.
Our prayers are:
- That all Batch A and B NPower Volunteers be given a permanent job placement spreading across various federal or states MDAs and parastatals. This demand is in fulfilment of your second term campaign promise to volunteers that, ‘their voters card is a ticket to securing a permanent job placement if returned.’
- That the program for Batch A and B should be extended till the year 2023, to help shore up the effects of the COVID-19 hardship on families and wards of NPower Volunteers.
- That Batch A and B should be given a “severance package” of N400,000 – N600,000 as start-up in their respective ventures after the program exit. Plus, a continuous payment of the monthly stipends of N30,000 pending the implementation of number 3.
Sir, the above demands are our heartfelt prayers to a dear father whose administration we believe has the capacity to do ‘The 500,000’ and our Nation a service of goodwill to create employment and reduce poverty to bearest minimum in line with the UN SDGs. Mr. President, Think of the far reaching socioeconomic impacts when 500,000 persons are taken off the poverty grid.
Mr. President, we guarantee the unwavering commitment and support by the beneficiaries towards the Nigeria Project of your administration. We pray this Sallah festivities that, Almighty Allah (SWT) grant you wisdom and strength to do good works now and always. Amen!
