The Giant Rice Pyramid in Kebbi state is a result of the investment drive of President Muhammadu Buhari in the rice value chain through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Anchor Borrowers Program (ABP). Also, because Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu and farmers in the state are formidably united to sustain food production.
Recall that before the inception of the Anchor Borrowers Program (ABP) in 2015, Kebbi’s rice production was 700,000 metric tonnes per annum, but just within a year of implementing the program, there have been massive rice production, not only in Kebbi State, but Nigeria as a whole.
Kebbi state recorded 1.1 million metric tonnes just within a year of implementing the programme, despite the 2020 flooding disaster, in which farmers lost rice and other farm produce, valued at millions of naira.
This economic and agricultural stride despite the flooding and insecurity in North West is commendable and we expect to see more from other states in the Federation.
