Mallam Saliu Mustapha, one of the front line aspirants for the All Progressives Congress (APC), chairmanship position, has promised to establish a directorate of new media if elected at the forthcoming national convention.
He made this known when he received a delegation of APC social media influencers in Abuja.
Mustapha, said the directorate of new media is important because it would target the large chunk of the Nigerians, the young voting populace who rely on social media for news and information.
He said in 2015, the opposition party deployed and used social media to their advantage. “It is not about creating situation room alone during elections, “there must ne an enabling environment ,” he said.
The APC national chairmanship aspirant, said he believes in teamwork and he is ready to partner with the new media experts, stating that he recognises their resilience and identifies with the challenges they face.
“If I’m there, it’s easier, because you come up with practical ideas. I’m not saying i am a guru in the media space, you come up with practical ideas and you are able to put me through, explain to me, and then I’ll give you the best of support you need for it to actualize,” he said.
Mallam Mustapha, who is the Turaki of Ilorin, said he would give everyone a sense of belonging and ensure that the APC is better and stronger for the task ahead in 2023. He urged APC social media influencers to remain resolute and continue to promote the APC and the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration online.
In his remarks, Gbenga Olorunpomi, said he is happy that a man like Mallam Mustapha is in the race for the position of national chairman. Remarks were made by John Fanimokun, Muyiwa Taofeek, Theresa Tekenah, Aliyu Audu, while other top new media strategists of the ruling party attended the meeting.
